Remembering when I had to choose between a prefab coop or building my own
Went with the DIY route using mostly scrap wood from my neighbor's old fence. It took two weekends, but that coop lasted through 8 Michigan winters. Anyone else still using their first build, or did you upgrade?

My first pallet coop made it 12 years.

Twelve years out of pallet wood is wild. That stuff can be so brittle and full of rusty nails. Must have been some really solid pallets to hold up that long, especially with all the moisture and temperature swings. Honestly thought pallet coops were more of a temporary fix. That's a serious testament to your building skills right there.

That "temporary fix" lasting twelve years makes me wonder, what was the specific secret to keeping that wood from rotting?
