PSA: lost 3 hens in one afternoon to wet bedding, check yours today
Two weeks ago I walked out after a heavy rain and found the coop floor soaked because my tarp had a tear I never noticed. Three of my girls were huddled in the corner with matted, damp feathers and by that evening two were wheezing and one wouldn't come off the roost at all. I spent $85 at the feed store on VetRx and new pine shavings and moved the whole flock to the garage for 4 days while I dried everything out. The wet litter grows bacteria fast and chickens hide being sick until it's bad, so please stick your hand down in the bedding tonight and make sure it's dry. Has anyone else had moisture problems after a storm, and how do you keep the run from turning into a swamp?
