Pro tip: free range vs fenced in, my neighbor Debbie changed my mind

I always kept my chickens in a fenced run because I was scared of hawks. Then my neighbor Debbie lost 3 hens to a fox that dug under her fence last spring. She told me her free range flock never had that problem because they could run and hide. Now I let my 12 birds roam my yard in the mornings while I'm home. Has anyone else switched between these two setups and seen a big difference in safety?

MAN I just saw a video of a fox opening a latch on a chicken coop. @the_kim you're not wrong, they are absolute geniuses at sneaking. They'll case a place for days just to find a tiny gap in a fence. Had a buddy who lost three hens to one that figured out how to slide a wood bolt sideways with its nose. Clever little bastards for sure.
