Neighbor's vinegar cure saved my hen's sour crop last Tuesday

My barred rock, Gertie, had a sour crop that felt like a water balloon and she stopped eating for two days. My neighbor Carol, who keeps 30 birds, said to skip the vet and try 1 tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar mixed into her water for 3 days. I was skeptical since she's been known to swear by duct tape fixes, but I tried it anyway. By day two the crop was draining normal and Gertie was scratching for worms by noon. Anybody else got a cheap home remedy that actually beat the professional advice?
