My rooster caught a hawk mid-air last Tuesday and now I have a whole new setup
I was out back in the run feeding the hens around 4 PM when a Cooper's hawk dropped down and my rooster Spud jumped up and hit it so hard both of them tumbled into the coop door, and now I'm wondering if I should add some netting over the top of the run since that's the second hawk visit this month, has anyone else had a rooster actually fight off a hawk?

Wait, is this for real? I used to think netting was overkill but now I get it.

Funny how that happens with so many things in life right? You think something is extra or unnecessary until you actually try it and realize you were just stubborn. Like I used to be the same way with meal prepping - seemed like a waste of time until I actually did it and saw how much easier my week got. Same with keeping a spare phone charger in my car, same with actually reading the instructions before assembling furniture. People dont realize how much little stuff adds up until they see it from the other side. Your brain just naturally resists things that seem like extra work until the payoff smacks you in the face.

Total game changer for me too. I put up netting after losing like three tomatoes to birds last year and honestly wish I had done it sooner. Now I don't even bother planting anything without netting and my harvests are WAY better. You just don't realize how much wildlife is picking at your stuff until you see it firsthand.
