My rooster attacked me for the first time yesterday morning

I was out in the coop at 6am doing my normal feed and water check when Duke came flying at my legs out of nowhere - had to use the feed scoop as a shield to get back to the gate. Anyone else had a rooster they raised from a chick suddenly turn aggressive on them?

Did you consider that maybe he’s protecting the hens from you being out there at first light, or is that too obvious?
