My neighbor talked me into letting my chickens free range and I'm never going back
Old guy named Hank two houses down saw me letting them out one at a time last spring and just said 'let em fly, they know what to do.' Watched my girls tear into a patch of clover he planted near the fence line and now I get way fewer slug problems in my garden. Anyone else notice their yard pests drop after going free range?

Oh man, I gotta disagree hard here. I tried free ranging my flock last year and lost three hens to a neighbor's dog in the first week alone. Have you had any close calls with predators or cars yet?

Got a buddy Mike who tried free ranging after his neighbor swore by it. First week was great, second week his rooster got taken by a hawk right in front of him. He said it was like a shadow came down and just poof gone. Then a raccoon got two of his best layers a few days later while they were scratching under a bush. Last I heard he had a electric net fence around a big section of his yard and only lets them out when hes sitting there with a coffee.
