My hens' eggshells went from paper thin to rock solid in about three weeks.

I noticed the shells were getting really weak and breaking in the nest box. My friend in Tacoma told me to check their feed, and sure enough, I was using a layer pellet that was really low in calcium. I switched them to a brand called Flock Stronger and started giving them crushed oyster shell free-choice. Now, after almost a month, the eggs are perfect. Has anyone else had to make a feed switch like this, and did you see other changes?

Glad you figured it out. Switching feeds made a huge difference for my girls' feather condition too.

Wish I could get my own bones that strong just by changing breakfast cereal.

Did you notice any change in how often they were laying? When I switched my girls' feed last year I saw the shells firm up but they also slowed down on laying for about a week before getting back to normal. The oyster shell free choice was a game changer for me too.
