Kept losing eggs to my neighbor's dog until I tried a simple laser pointer trick I saw on YouTube

After three weeks of finding broken shells every morning I aimed a cheap laser pointer at the fence line for 30 seconds before letting them out and that nosy mutt hasn't come near the coop since, anyone else use weird deterrents that actually work?

My buddy tried those wind chimes @benbrown mentioned and ended up with raccoons that seemed to enjoy the free music, just sat there staring at them. Friend of mine used a motion-activated sprinkler for deer and now they just hop over it at the same time every night, treats it like an obstacle course. Pretty sure animals just adapt to anything that doesn't actually hurt them, laser trick seems like a solid plan until they figure it out.

Read something a while back about using wind chimes to keep raccoons out of a garden. Supposedly the random noise and movement freaks them out. Never tried it myself but the logic seems similar to your laser trick, confusing the animal's sense of pattern. Also heard about people hanging old CDs on strings to scare off birds, works for a bit until they get used to it. Maybe you could try moving the laser spot around different spots each day, keep that dog on his toes.
