Heard a teenager call my hens 'vintage tech' and it hit different

Was out refilling the waterer last Tuesday and my neighbor's nephew was watching the girls peck around. He asked if they were 'like a farm subscription' and I laughed, said no, they're just hens. Then he said 'so they're basically vintage tech, you have to check them every day or the whole system fails.' Stood there for a second. He's not wrong. I remember 15 years ago when I started, everyone was on forums swapping advice about pine shavings vs straw and now there's apps that track your flock's egg output and automated coop doors that close on a timer. I still do the morning scramble before work, same as my dad did in the 80s. Not knocking the gadgets, I have a solar door opener, but that kid made me realize the core part hasn't changed. You still gotta get your hands in there, check for mites, notice when one hen is off her feed. That part's not getting any easier or more convenient. Anyone else feel like the old ways are still the main job, or am I just stuck in my ways?

The "vintage tech" line got me because it's the same with a lot of things now. People think an app or a gadget replaces the daily grind, but the real work is still the boring, hands-on stuff that never changes. We just slap new names on old habits and call it progress.
