Free-ranging vs locked run, my raccoon wake up call in Plano
Last Tuesday I let the girls out at 6am like always, and by 8am I had two missing and one limping from a gap in the fence I swear I checked 3 times. I figured free range was worth the risk for happier birds, but my neighbor Sarah lost her whole flock of 12 to a hawk month back and now I'm second guessing. Do you folks stick to a run full time or let them roam and just accept the losses? I'm leaning toward building a bigger covered pen but that means less grass for them to scratch.
