Dropped $120 on a fancy heated chicken waterer and it barely lasted one winter

I figured I'd splurge on one of those insulated heated waterers last November after my old setup kept freezing solid every morning here in Ohio. It was supposed to be the good kind with a thermostat and everything. By mid-January the heating element just stopped working. Tried contacting the company but got no response. Now I'm back to hauling warm water out twice a day like a sucker. Has anyone found a heated waterer that actually holds up past one season?

Are you past the return window with the credit card company? I had a similar problem a few years back and ended up going with a big rubber stock tank and a submersible heater instead... one of those metal ones with the cage around it. That setup has lasted me three winters now with no issues, just gotta keep an eye on the water level so the heater doesn't get exposed. It was way cheaper too, I think I paid around 60 bucks for the tank and 40 for the heater.

Used to think those expensive heated waterers were worth the money but after hearing stories like yours I'm glad I never pulled the trigger. My buddy in Vermont had the same model fail on him three weeks in and the company ghosted him too. What kind of birds are you keeping?
