Vent: My week on the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon was a total washout

I had five days set aside in July for a 50-mile section near Crater Lake. It rained every single day, which is unusual for that area that time of year. My tent got soaked through on night two and I couldn't get anything dry for the rest of the trip. I ended up cutting the hike short by two days and hitchhiking back to my car. Has anyone else had a stretch of bad weather ruin a carefully planned route?

Did you try setting up camp at higher elevation to get out of the fog? That spot below the rim usually traps moisture worse than anywhere else.

Blames the gear before blaming the weather lmao.

honestly I gotta disagree with drew_grant52 on this one. sometimes weather just trumps gear no matter what you bring. I did a week on the PCT near Mount Hood a few summers back and had the same issue where it just would not stop raining. my tent was a decent one but after three days of straight drizzle everything gets damp including your sleeping bag and morale. you can have the best rain fly in the world but if the humidity is that high you're basically living in a cloud. maybe it's just me but I think there's a point where you have to call it and hitch out like you did. nobody should feel bad about cutting a trip short when conditions are that rough.
