Took me four map re-downloads before I realized the John Muir Trail app kept crashing because my phone storage was completely full.
Had 47 photos of the same granite peak taking up 3 gigs while I was sitting there blaming the trail for bad signal when the real problem was I hadn't cleared my cache since Yosemite Valley, anyone else run into storage issues mid-route?

Dude I read this article about how phone storage gets eaten up by cached maps and it's basically like leaving breadcrumbs everywhere except you're the one who gets lost. My buddy did the JMT last year and he told me he was deleting selfies in real time just to make room for his GPS. The funny thing is technology is supposed to make things easier but apparently it just gives us new ways to blame mountains for our own phone clutter.

@finleythomas that deleting selfies in real time part hit way too close to home. I did a week in the Sierras last fall and spent half my evenings playing storage Tetris just to keep my GPS running for the next day. We carry these gadgets to help us find the trail but end up getting lost in managing them instead.
