Showerthought: I wasted $40 on a 'waterproof' map case that soaked through on the first day of my Olympic Peninsula loop.
Has anyone found a truly reliable brand that can handle constant Pacific Northwest drizzle?

My last "waterproof" bag turned into a sponge on a day hike near Forks. Ended up reading a soggy blob that vaguely resembled a topo map. I've just accepted that nothing is truly waterproof here, only water resistant for a disappointingly short time.

Ugh, @val323, that's the real Forks experience right there. I've had "waterproof" boots fill with water crossing a basic creek, and my phone in a "dry" bag got soaked in a drizzle. It feels like they test this stuff in a light mist, not our actual sideways rain. You start to trust a zipper or a seam, and it always lets you down at the worst time.
