Pro tip: switch to hiking poles if you're over 35, your knees will thank you
I used to laugh at hiking poles. Called them cheater sticks. Then I did a 3 day loop in Shenandoah two summers ago and my right knee swelled up like a grapefruit. I'm 41 now and tried a cheap pair of Cascade Mountain poles on a 12 mile day in the White Mountains. Night and day difference. My legs felt fresh at the end and I could actually keep up with the 20 somethings in my group. I get that some folks think they look dorky, but I'll take dorky over limping for a week. Anyone else make the switch later in life or are you still stubborn like I was?
