Just realized my old topo maps beat phone GPS on this Utah loop

Did the Uinta Highline Trail last fall with a buddy who swore by his GPS app. Around mile 14 the phone died in the cold and we were stuck on a ridge with no service. I pulled out my 1997 paper topo and we found the spring and the camp spot in ten minutes. Now I carry both on every trip, but the paper map gets the first look. Anyone else gone back to paper after a GPS failure?
