Hit 2,000 trail miles on an old route I never planned to repeat

I kept going back to the same loop near Mount Shasta because it was close and easy, then last Saturday my GPS ticked over to 2,000 total miles on that trail alone after 5 years of walking it. That number surprised me hard, since I always thought I was a wanderer who needed new paths, but the familiarity turned into its own kind of comfort. Anyone else got a route they never meant to become a regular on, and what keeps you coming back?

Dodge the whole "wanderer" identity crisis and just admit the trail owns you now. I've got a similar one behind my house, a boring 3 mile gravel path I swore I'd only hit when I was too lazy to drive somewhere better. Five years later and it's basically my second living room, I know every root and rock like they're old friends. The funny part is I still call it my "backup route" even though it's clearly the main event now. Something about not having to think, just putting one foot down after the other, beats any fancy new view. My GPS probably thinks I'm a domestic terrorist with all that back and forth, but hey, at least the mileage is honest.
