Hiked the Narrows wrong for years until a ranger near the river set me straight
I was on the bottom trail near the Wall Street section in Zion last October and a ranger asked if I had walking sticks. I said nah, I just use my hands on the rocks. She told me that's how people break wrists when they slip and that proper $20 poles would save me from a bad trip. Now I always bring them and my ankles don't ache after 6 miles. Anyone else get a reality check from something simple like that?

The ranger telling me that same thing about wrist breaks is exactly what got me to buy poles too. Now I won't do any rocky hike without them, total game changer for the knees on the way down.

Can you believe I went YEARS without poles and just let my knees take the beating?
