Update: I was wrong about paying extra for enclosed transport

My neighbor Rick, who moves classic cars for a living, told me a open carrier ruined a guy's paint job with gravel on I-80 last month. I used to think enclosed shipping was a waste of $600, but after seeing his photos I'm rethinking it for my dad's old Chevelle. Has anyone here actually had damage happen on an open trailer, or is Rick just scaring me?
