Contract rates in Phoenix changed more than I expected in 6 months
I've been hauling cars between LA and Phoenix for 4 years, and I checked my records last month. The average payout per mile dropped from $1.85 to $1.42 in just half a year, even with fuel costs staying flat. I didn't believe it until I pulled my own logs, so I asked three other drivers in the same lane and they all saw the same dip. What's driving it, too many new brokers or are shippers squeezing margins? Has anyone else tracked their per-mile earnings this closely?
Brokers are flooding the lane and bidding against each other for volume. Shippers figure rates keep dropping so they hold out for lower numbers every week. Numbers like that dont lie, time to renegotiate or find another route.
