A dispatcher in Omaha told me to stop picking brokers on price alone and it finally clicked after 3 shipments
So I ship cars for a small dealer and I always sorted quotes lowest to highest, simple as that. Last month a dispatcher named Ray in Omaha spent like 20 minutes on the phone with me after I complained about a pickup window that slipped 2 times. He said the cheap brokers just post your load on a board and hope somebody grabs it, while the ones who cost $150 more usually have their own trucks or regular carriers. I blew him off at first because who doesn't want to save $150. But I tried it on a Civic going from Lincoln to Boise and the carrier actually called me 24 hours ahead, showed up in the window, and sent photos at delivery. Then I did it again on two more cars and same thing, no games, no 3 AM texts asking if the car is still available. I went back and looked at my last 5 shipments through the cheap guys and 4 of them had some kind of delay or damage claim. So yeah, I owe Ray one because I was reading reviews wrong the whole time, I was only looking at star ratings and not at whether the reviewer ever got their car on the date they were told. How do you all weigh price against an actual track record when you're booking, is there a dollar amount where you just walk away from the cheap quote?
