TIL I was putting oil filters on way too tight for 20 years

Overheard a guy at my parts store say hand tight plus a quarter turn is all you need and I've been cranking them down with a wrench for two decades, has anyone else had that moment where you realize you've been doing something basic wrong the whole time?
