Rant: a brake job in Tulsa got me banned from lending tools at my own garage

I was helping a buddy on his truck in Tulsa last summer and lent him my 10mm deep socket, which he then dropped down into the frame rail somehow. We spent an hour fishing it out with a magnet, and when he finally got it, the socket went flying and hit his kid's juice box on the workbench. Now I keep a clipboard by my box and make anyone who borrows a tool sign it out like a library book. My own brother called me a jerk for it last weekend when I handed him the pen. Anyone else got a strict sign out rule or am I the only one who went full librarian?
