Old timer at the parts counter gave me a warning I didn't listen to
He told me to never use cheap hub bearings on a Chevy 1500. I saved 40 bucks and replaced them 8 months later after one locked up on the highway. Anyone else learn a hard lesson from ignoring a veteran mechanic?

Wait, @rivera.keith is right about the spindle but has anyone checked if the cheap bearings are actually even the right heat range for highway driving? I had a set that looked fine but the grease turned to water after a long trip.

That same old timer told me something that stuck with me though. He said the bearings are just the beginning. Cheap bearings wobble just a tiny bit and that wobble wears out the spindle on the hub assembly. So you aren't just replacing bearings, you are replacing the whole hub sooner because the spindle got chewed up. I ignored him once too and had to replace the whole hub assembly on my 2500 a year later. Saved 40 bucks but cost me 200 and a whole Saturday.
