I mean, I used to think those cheap universal O2 sensor sockets were fine, but after fighting one for 45 minutes on a Ford Escape, I just bought the specific $32 Lisle tool.

The universal one kept slipping and rounding the sensor's hex. The Lisle one has the exact cutout for the wiring harness and a proper swivel. It took maybe two minutes. Why do I always learn this the hard way? What's your 'just buy the right tool' moment that saved your sanity?

I always figured a wrench was a wrench. Then I tried to change the cabin air filter on my old Civic. The manual said you needed a special bendy tool to reach the clips. I fought with a screwdriver and needle nose pliers for an hour, breaking two clips. The seven dollar tool from the parts store had it done in thirty seconds. Never argued with a service manual again.

That "never argued with a service manual again" line is the real truth. I learned it with the special pliers for internal snap rings. You can't just pinch them with regular ones, they'll fly across the shop.
