Digital calipers vs my old tape measure, took 3 jobs to switch
I spent 8 years doing brake rotors and drums with a tape measure because that's what my first shop boss used. Last month I finally grabbed a $30 set of digital calipers after I got a comeback on a rear drum job in Phoenix, customer said the parking brake felt weak. Measured the drum again, turned out I was off by 2 millimeters, which is huge when you're setting shoe clearance. I hate admitting the calipers were right, but I just did my first front pad job blind with them and the pedal feel was perfect. Anyone else still using old-school measuring tools out of stubbornness, or am I the last one?
