A customer's simple question made me rethink my go-to brake pad choice

Had a chat last Tuesday with an older guy who drives a 2004 Tacoma. He asked why I always reach for ceramic pads over semi-metallic for his commute. I gave my usual spiel about dust and noise, but then he pointed out he only does 8k miles a year, mostly short trips in town. He said, "These rotors are original at 140k, I just need something that bites when cold." That hit different because I never really stopped to think about use case, I just default to what I trust. Swapped him to a quality semi-metallic set and he came back yesterday saying they stop way better in the morning. Now I'm second guessing how many other customers I've pushed toward ceramic without asking about their driving habits first. Anyone else catch themselves in a rut with certain parts and have a customer talk you out of it?
