Stop buffing clear coat until you try wet sanding with 1200 first

I wasted 3 hours on a burnt hood last week doing the usual compound routine, then ran 1200 grit over the worst spot and the whole thing leveled out in 15 minutes, so if you're fighting orange peel, why not give it a shot before you reach for the wool pad?

Wet sanding by hand sounds like a therapy session for my paint, but my arms are gonna hate me tomorrow. Last time I tried 1200 grit I ended up buffing through to primer on a fender and my buddy still calls me "Mr. Two-Tone". Still, you got a point, orange peel drives me nuts and the machine just swirls it around. Maybe I'll tape off a test spot and pray my elbow survives the workout.
