Sanded through three coats of primer on a bumper corner because I got the tape line wrong by a quarter inch

That quarter inch of tape drift cost me close to 40 minutes of re-sanding and re-shooting, and I'm still annoyed about it, so has anyone else had a masking mistake snowball like that on a simple bumper repair?
