Paid $220 for a plastic welding kit and it cracked every bumper tab I touched
Against my better judgment I bought a hot staple plastic welder off a tool truck last spring because the salesman swore it would save me hours on bumper repairs. I practiced on a scrap Camry cover and every tab I repaired snapped off within a day, and when I tried it on a real customer's CR-V bumper I ended up eating $180 in labor to redo the whole thing with a proper two-part epoxy. Maybe I was running the tip too hot or moving too fast, but for the money it was not worth it. Anyone here actually gotten those things to hold up long term, or is it just me?

My uncle bought one of those harbor freight plastic welders back in 2019 and swore by it for his little side gig fixing ATV fenders. He'd sit in his garage on Saturday mornings with a heat gun and that thing, melting cracks back together on old Polaris plastics, and honestly some of those held fine for years. But bumper tabs are a different animal, they take way more stress and flex than a fender ever will. He tried the same setup on a friend's Tacoma bumper and it popped apart the first time the guy backed into a snowbank. I figure the plastic on bumpers is just too rigid and thin at the tabs for that kind of repair to last, hot staples or not.
