Learned a trick for blending single-stage metallic today

Read on a forum that you can reduce gun pressure to 20 psi for the base coat to keep the metallic from mottling. Tried it on a Ford hood I was painting and it laid down way flatter than my usual method. Has anyone else dialed their pressure down for metallics?

Used to crank my pressure up thinking it would give better coverage, but dropping it down really did smooth out the metallic. Might have to stick with this from now on.

Tbh that's actually a good way to think about it. Reminds me of how turning down the heat on a pan lets a sauce come together better instead of burning. Sometimes easing off the pressure just works better all around.
