Had a customer bring in a 2015 Camry with bondo falling out of a bumper crack yesterday

Someone before me filled a 6 inch crack with straight bondo, no flex agent or plastic welder behind it. Thing looked fine for maybe a month then popped right out when they hit a pothole. Took me 2 hours to grind all that junk out and plastic weld it proper with the fusion rod. Anyone else dealing with hack repairs like this lately?

Used to think bondo was a decent quick fix for anything on a car. But after seeing what happens when it hits the real world, I changed my mind completely. That stuff just doesn't hold up on plastic bumpers or anything that flexes. Grinding out someone else's lazy work sounds like a nightmare, but at least you did it right this time. Plastic welding with a fusion rod is the only way to go for a repair that lasts.

Catching the humidity issue is the part most people miss. Even with plastic welding, if the bumper absorbed moisture from a few seasons of weather before you fix it, the weld can still pop from the inside out.
