Got into a real argument with a painter about blending vs. full panel on a 2018 Silverado bedside
We were working on a truck in our shop in Tacoma last week, and the painter insisted on blending the color into the cab instead of painting the whole bedside. I said that was asking for a color match headache down the road, especially with that specific metallic gray. He said it saves the customer money and time, and the blend would be invisible. We went with his plan to keep the job moving, but I'm still not convinced it was the right call. Has anyone else had a blend turn out bad after a few months in the sun?

Heard a guy at the parts counter last month complaining about the exact same thing on a similar truck. Said the blend looked perfect when it left the shop, but after one summer the metallic in the new paint faded differently than the original. Ended up with a visible line right down the door where they blended. Makes me wonder if some colors just don't hold up that way over time.

That "visible line after one summer" thing is so typical. It feels like everything these days is made to look good just long enough to get past the warranty. You see it with furniture, appliances, even house paint.
