Warning: got dew on my DSLR sensor at a star party near Tucson and almost lost a whole night
Setting up at a dark sky site outside Tucson last month, I pulled my camera off the tripod too fast and left the body open while I dug for a lens cloth. Ten minutes later I saw a soft blob in my frame during a test shot at ISO 3200, and it was not a dust bunny, it was moisture creeping onto the sensor glass. I stopped shooting, capped the body, and put the whole thing in a ziplock with fresh silica packs for about 45 minutes while the dew point kept climbing. Then I ran a sensor clean with a swab and a blower back at the car, took a flat frame, and the spot was gone by 11pm. Lesson for me is cap the body the second a lens comes off, even for 30 seconds. How are you all handling dew at these desert sites, heater strips or just waiting it out?
