Tried stacking 50 photos of Jupiter from my backyard and the detail blew my mind

I've got a basic 6 inch scope and a cheap planetary camera, and I always thought you needed way better gear for sharp shots. Last night I decided to just go for it and record a 2 minute video of Jupiter, then used free software to stack the best 50% of the frames. The result wasn't just a bright blob, I could actually make out the Great Red Spot and some banding. It taught me that processing is just as important as the gear itself. Has anyone else had a simple setup surprise them like that?

Yeah, that's the real secret they don't always tell you when you're starting out. I read an article a while back from an astrophotographer who said the biggest jump in quality for most people isn't a new scope, it's learning how to properly process the data you already have. Your story proves that point perfectly. It's amazing what you can pull out of the noise with some patience and free software. That feeling of seeing detail emerge for the first time on your own screen is just unbeatable.

Honestly, I get what @anthony618 is saying about processing, but doesn't gear still matter a ton for consistency? My first decent shot came from stacking too, but the next clear night my seeing was awful and the raw video was just mush. Good software helps, but it can't fix bad data from a shaky mount or bad air.
