Talked to a guy from Kitt Peak last weekend about telescope filters
He said most amateurs spend too much on narrowband filters when a simple UV/IR cut filter does the job for galaxy photos. Made me rethink my entire shopping list for the Orion nebula shot I've been planning. Anyone else got advice on keeping filter setups simple?

You know, that comment about UV/IR cut filters for galaxies really got me thinking. I used to be all about stacking narrowband filters for everything, thinking more gear meant better shots. But after trying just a basic UV/IR cut on my last Andromeda attempt, the results were way cleaner and I didn't have to spend hours processing out gradients. Your mileage may vary depending on your light pollution, but for broadband targets like galaxies, keeping it simple has totally changed my approach.

Bought a fancy narrowband set once and spent three weeks trying to figure out why my Orion nebula looked like a muddy rainbow. Switched to a simple UV/IR cut and suddenly it looked like a photo, not a failed art project.
