PSA: My telescope mount died during a meteor shower
Was out near Flagstaff last Thursday for the Perseids. Set everything up at 9 PM. Perfect sky. Dark as hell. Then my mount just stopped tracking around midnight. Heard a grinding noise. Motor fried or something. Lost two hours of good shooting. Had to pack up and watch the shower with just my eyes. Anyone else had a mount fail at the worst possible time? What do you use as a backup?

Ugh that sucks, same thing happened to me last year with my mount.

Call me crazy but I actually prefer when stuff breaks early on - at least you know what you're dealing with before a big trip or something. Gets the bad luck out of the way.
