Dropped $800 on a star tracker and I'm not sure it was worth it

I bought a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer 2i last year to try deep sky shots from my backyard near Flagstaff. The tracker works, but my light pollution is so bad I still need to drive an hour out for decent photos. On one hand, it lets me take five-minute exposures I couldn't do before. On the other, for the same money I could've just booked a guided tour at a dark sky park. Has anyone else bought gear that felt like overkill for their actual location?

Guided tours at a dark sky park" sounds like a way better deal, honestly.

Oh man, my friend saw a shooting star on one of those tours and totally freaked out, lol.

The guides at Cherry Springs just point at the same old constellations every single time.
