Warning: My 20-year cleaning shortcut was ruining my own floors

For years I mopped with hot water and vinegar on my tile, thinking it was the best cheap option. Then a client in Tucson asked why her grout lines looked worse after I cleaned them, and I realized the acid was eating the sealant. I switched to a neutral pH cleaner and tested it on a small patch last Tuesday, the difference was night and day. Has anyone else discovered their go-to method was the actual problem all along?

Man, same thing happened with my hardwood. I was using this all-purpose spray with ammonia thinking it was fine, then noticed the finish looking cloudy in spots. Switched to a gentle soap and water mix, buffed it dry, and it brought the shine back. Funny how we trust those old DIY tricks until the floors tell us otherwise.
