Thought $80 yoga classes were a rip off, then my back stopped hurting after 6 weeks
I always rolled my eyes at people paying $80 a month for hot yoga at the studio near my place in Sacramento. Figured stretching in a sweaty room was something you could just do free on YouTube. Then my lower back got so bad I couldn't bend over to tie my boots, and a buddy dragged me to a class. Six weeks later I was touching my toes again for the first time since high school, and now I'm the one defending it to my skeptical brother. So where do you all draw the line between stuff that's actually worth paying for and stuff that's just hype with a price tag?
Funny how the free YouTube stuff never quite works the same, right? I hurt my shoulder a few years back and tried every video I could find, but nothing stuck until I paid for a few sessions with a trainer who actually watched my form and called me out when I was cheating. Turns out a camera can't tell you you're doing it wrong, and that's most of the value right there. For me the line is whether someone is correcting me or just handing me a routine I could get anywhere. If I'm paying for eyes on me and real feedback, it's worth it. If I'm paying for access to something I can find free in five minutes, that's when I walk.
