Feel for you man. That's the kind of thing that sticks with you for days. Pickled eggs in a pie case is just wrong on every level. Like someone gave up halfway through stocking the display. Probably tasted like vinegar and regret if you tried one. Hope the coffee was at least decent. Sometimes you just gotta laugh and move on.

Vinegar and regret" is EXACTLY what I was thinking too. That's the most accurate description of a gas station pie case I've ever heard. You just KNOW someone at corporate told the manager to "diversify the food offerings" and they took it WAY too literally. The WORST part is when you're already having a rough day and you see something that makes zero sense like that. Like, I had a moment last week where I saw a jar of pickled eggs sitting next to a bag of frozen burritos at a convenience store and it just BROKE my brain for a solid five minutes. Honestly, sometimes the universe throws these weird combo at us just to test our patience, and we have to laugh or we'll cry. Hope the coffee was drinkable at least, that's the real saving grace in these situations.
