Just realized most people don't test their soil before planting vegetables
Been gardening for about 4 years now. Last spring I finally bought a $15 test kit from Home Depot and found out my dirt had almost no nitrogen. Three neighbors I talked to had the same issue. Why do so many people just throw seeds in the ground and hope for the best? Has anyone else checked their soil and found something unexpected?

Dude yes, same thing happened to me. Spent two years putting tomatoes in dirt that was basically dead, and then I tested it and found out my pH was way off too. Felt like such an idiot for not checking sooner.

Read an article from our local extension office that said most backyard soil is either missing something or has too much of something else. It made me realize that testing isnt about being fancy, it's just basic car maintenance for your garden. Saves you a whole season of wasted effort and money on plants that never had a chance.
