I was sure those 'ask me anything' sessions were just for show

For years, I thought the live Q&A parts of online events were staged with planted questions. I went to a virtual town hall for our local school board six months ago and asked a specific thing about the new math curriculum budget. The superintendent didn't have the number ready but said she'd check, and I got a detailed email with the exact $15,000 figure the next morning. That changed my view completely. It proved they were actually listening and willing to look things up. Has anyone else had a simple question turn into real, documented follow-up from an official source?

It's easy to become cynical about public officials. Getting a real follow-up shows a basic level of respect that should be normal. We forget how powerful that simple accountability can be.

Yeah, like it's the bare minimum. I mean, we act shocked when they just do the job.
