I just hit 500 questions answered on this forum and it feels weird

I was looking at my profile stats yesterday and saw the number 500 next to 'answers given'. I've been posting here for about two years, mostly just helping out when I know something (or think I do, ha). It's strange because I never set out to hit a number, I just like the back-and-forth. Has anyone else been surprised by a forum milestone they weren't really tracking?

Wait, you've only been here two years? I've been posting for like five and I'm barely past 300 answers (I just checked, it's kind of embarrassing). You must be on here all the time to hit 500 that fast.

I used to check my post count all the time on an old gaming forum, really chasing that next badge. What changed for me was when the site shut down and that number just vanished. It made me realize the_mary is right, the real value was the dumb jokes and the help I got fixing my computer. The counter is just the receipt, not the meal. Now I barely look at my stats here because the conversation is the whole point.

Well, 500 answers is just a number the site keeps track of. It doesn't mean you're an expert or anything. I see people get hung up on forum scores and badges like they matter in real life. You said it yourself, you just like talking to people here. The counter going up is just a side effect of that. Maybe don't give it so much weight.
