Had to choose between a used car and a train pass for commuting
I live in Austin and my old car finally died. I had to pick between spending $4,000 on a used Honda with 150k miles or getting a year long train pass for $1,200. I went with the train pass and honestly it's been great for the first month. No sitting in traffic or worrying about parking downtown. Has anyone else made a switch like this and regretted it later?

Did you factor in what happens when the train doesn't run on time during summer thunderstorms?

Oh come on, @emma349, you're reaching here. Summer thunderstorms are like what, maybe 10 bad days a year tops? You can't let that drive the whole planning process. If we're being real, the train already gets delayed by other stuff way more often anyway. And the worst case scenario is you wait an extra 20 minutes at the platform, that's not exactly a crisis. Plus if you plan around that, you're just building in extra buffer that makes the whole schedule slower the rest of the year.
