Found out yesterday that 90% of abandoned shopping carts never get followed up on

I was reading a report from Baymard Institute on e-commerce checkout habits. Turns out the average cart abandonment rate is around 70%, but almost none of those people get a reminder email or anything. That stat blew my mind because I always figured big stores would have some system for that. I've personally left stuff in carts and would probably buy if they sent a nudge. Anyone else been surprised by how little follow up there is after you leave a site?

Right, because who wants free money, right? Let's just leave it sitting there like a forgotten sock in the dryer. Maybe they're hoping we'll develop a sudden case of amnesia and remember to check out next year. It's almost like they're running a charity for people who can't decide on a new pair of shoes. I swear, half the business advice out there is just "do the bare minimum and hope for the best.

That really is wild when you think about it! It reminds me of how many businesses just forget to close the loop on things. Like how restaurants will take your order but never ask if you want dessert, or how gyms sign you up for a membership but never check in after the first month. People are literally leaving money on the table because they assume you'll come back on your own. It's the same with those abandoned carts - a simple email could probably recover a ton of sales, but most places just let it slide. Makes you wonder what else they're missing out on!
