Everyone says a bad week is just a bad week, but my worst one actually taught me something useful

Two years ago in March, my car broke down on a Tuesday, my basement flooded on Thursday, and my dog got sick over the weekend. The repair bills came to about $2,300 total. What made it stand out wasn't the bad luck, but how everyone told me to just 'get through it' and forget it. I disagree. I started a detailed log of what broke and when, which helped me spot a pattern of deferred maintenance I was ignoring. Now I actually plan for these things instead of pretending they're random. Has anyone else found that tracking problems makes them less stressful when they happen again?

I mean, that just sounds like extra work to me.

Right? It feels like extra work at first but honestly saves so much time later. My notes app is full of that stuff and it's saved my butt more than once.

Totally get that, and @kim.stella it's way less work than dealing with a big surprise bill! My little notebook saved me last winter.
