Bought a $40 chef knife set on sale, my $160 one was worse

I got this budget set from a warehouse store in Phoenix last month, and the blade holds an edge way longer than my fancy name brand one. The expensive one chipped after a week of normal veggie chopping, but this cheap one has been through 4 big meal preps and still slices tomatoes thin. Anyone else find that price tags on kitchen gear are just a scam sometimes?
