A stranger at the hardware store said one thing and now I can't stop thinking about it

Guy in line behind me yesterday pointed at my cart and said 'you buy the tools you want, not the tools you need' and I've been replaying that while staring at my 300 dollars in unused clamps, so what's one purchase you made that was really about something else entirely?

Tell me about it. I bought a used table saw last year and spent more on the blade guard upgrades than the saw itself, just so I could feel like a "serious woodworker" for about a weekend. Meanwhile my actual projects are held together with pocket screws and hope. Those clamps are probably doing more for your self-image than any piece of wood you've ever clamped, so honestly, you might be the sane one here. Ever actually use all of them at once, or do they just live in a neat little shrine on the shelf?
